For the 4th consecutive year, the Conflict and Peace Studies Program (CPS) at the University of North Carolina Greensboro (UNCG) is delighted to announce the annual speaker series will host yet another engaging evening of spirited intellectual dialogue. Over the past 4 years, the CPS Program at the UNCG has offered penetrating talks, lectures, and dialogue from some of the greatest minds in Peace Studies worldwide. Some of the past speakers have included Howard Zehr of Eastern Mennonite University speaking about restorative justice; Johan Galtung of TRANSCEND Peace University with a talk about peace studies, peace development, and peace building; and David Smith of the United States Institute of Peace on global peace building. In Fall 2012, The CPS Program is organizing a conference on applied peace building, Health Through Peace; this will bring faculty and students together to identify new strategies for non-violent conflict transformation.

On Saturday June 2nd 2012, Noam Chomsky will engage in a moderated discussion entitled, Israel/Palestine: Concrete Solutions Towards Peace

I got tickets to hear Noam Chomsky on June 2 speaking on Israel and Palestine: Practical Solutions, then found this Chomsky / Galtung announcement. That would’ve been a terrific conversation, but I phoned Peace & Conflict Studies and was told that it’s Chomsky alone who will speak. The joint appearance must not have worked out… Johan Galtung must not have been able to come after all.

Thanks for a fine website with local events!!

THANK YOU! I didn’t even NOTICE the change after visiting the event 3-4 times. Looking forward to seeing you there!
